Campground Categories

Tent

Flat ground, fire rings, and picnic tables. Traditional tent camping sites.

RV

Drive-up sites that may have electrical, water, or sewer hookups.

Walk-in

A short walk from the parking area. Quieter, more secluded sites.

🏔️

Backcountry

Hike-in, paddle-in, or fly-in access only. Minimal facilities.

🌲

General

Multi-use or unspecified type. May support tents, RVs, or both.

Data Sources

BC Parks

Provincial parks managed by BC Parks. Often reservable with full facilities (toilets, water, fire rings).

Rec Site

Recreation sites managed by BC Recreation Sites & Trails (RSTBC). Free, first-come-first-served, basic facilities.

Marine Trail

BC Marine Trail sites accessible by boat or kayak. Free or by donation.

Private

Commercial campgrounds. Paid, often with full amenities.

Status

OpenThe campground is currently open based on its season dates.
ClosedThe campground is currently closed or outside its operating season.

What data sources does WhereToCamp use?

We pull data from BC Parks (provincial parks), BC Recreation Sites & Trails (free rec sites), the BC Marine Trail Association, OpenStreetMap, and HelloBC.

How current is the data?

Data is refreshed regularly from official sources. Season dates and open/closed status are computed live based on the dates each source provides.

Can I submit photos?

Yes! Sign in and you can upload a community photo on any campground's detail page. Photos are resized and stored securely.

Is this an official government site?

No. WhereToCamp is an independent, open-source project. Always verify details with official sources before your trip.

How do I report incorrect information?
