About
Near the town of Houston, at the northern tip of Owen Lake is a large, open grassy area mixed with some treed sites along the lake, providing space for 14 or more groups. There are incredible views of Nadina Mountain here where mountain goats can be spotted with binoculars or spotting scopes and a nearby trail leading into Nadina Mountain Park. There is a concrete/gravel boat launch (depending on water level) and land based dock, a small beach and nearby hiking trails. Be sure to check out Houston hikers website for ideas: https://houstonhikers.ca/. There are several species of fish in the lake and it can be a popular spot in spring and fall for fishing/hunting. Due to the large amount of grass/vegetation and natural food sources, bears tend to frequent the site. Please be bear aware, keep your camp free of garbage/fish/food scents etc. The road is often busy with logging traffic, a VHF radio with Resource Road channels is recommended for travel here.
Please be sure to purchase a fishing licence and consult the BC Freshwater Fishing Regulations Synopsis for limits, special regulations and closures: https://www2.gov.bc.ca/assets/gov/sports-recreation-arts-and-culture/outdoor-recreation/fishing-and-hunting/freshwater-fishing/region_6_skeena.pdf
