About
Lakelse Lake Park comprises three separately accessible areas, Furlong Bay Campground, Lakelse Picnic Site, and Gruchy's Beach. All three sections have sandy beach access to Lakelse Lake, a very beautiful lake complimented by the Kitimat Mountain Range in the background. Activities most enjoyed in the park include hiking, canoeing, boating, windsurfing, swimming, fishing, camping and sightseeing. Furlong Bay Campground is the main part of the Lakelse Lake Provincial Park. It includes lakefront day-use facilities, a covered picnic shelter, amphitheatre, Visitor Centre and ice cream stand. Kayaks and standup board rentals are available during the open season. The Lakelse Picnic Site family beach and covered area are located north of Furlong Bay and open year round. The reservable groupsite is within this area (see group camping for operating dates). Gruchyβs Beach, closest to Terrace, has an easy hiking trail before connecting to a sandy beach. It is open year round but is subject to winter snowfall closures. No camping or campfires are allowed. Lakelse Lake Park preserves stands of impressive old growth cedar, hemlock and Sitka spruce forests which thrive in the moist air swept in from the Pacific Ocean. It is situated in the Skeena River Watershed and is surrounded by the mountains of the Kitimat Range.
