We camped here in a tent. We decided to head out for a weekend of camping on the SATURDAY of the long weekend. The prospects for finding a site were slim at best. We stumbled upon this gem by accident. In fact, the signs for the CG had been torn down that day. It’s a small CG, with one set of pit toilets and a water pump, but it’s a beauty!
Situated on the Oldman River, the campgound only has about 14 sites. Its inexpensive too. You have to make your way off the main hwy (Hwy 40) about 1.5 kms along a crappy road to reach the CG. It is unserviced, with nice big treed lots. The furthest site is still only 50 feet from the river, where fishing is excellent (from what I was told). I didn’t fish that weekend, but if you do, go down stream a ways, or make your way west of the CG into the unmaintained area.
Firewood can be purchased by the bag, HOWEVER, you must drive south about 10kms to Dutch Creek Campground and buy it from the manager there. Bit of hassle, but it’s a nice drive, at least. Once a day they drive through the campground and I THINK they sells bags of wood that way as well.
There are a plethora of trails in the area for mountain biking, but beware of the human and animal dangers. There are a lot of quads, and a lot of wildlife in the area.
The river can be very cold, but is clean and refreshing on those hot summer days. A great place to relax with your morning coffee. And Baileys.
